I'm especially invested in helping schools and health and human service agencies build capacity for service to others. I've been fortunate to train and present workshops regionally, nationally, and internationally. I offer opportunities for mental health professionals, social workers, and educators to better engage clients and students. We'll not only learn new interventions and techniques; we'll discuss theories and learning models which can help you tap into your own creativity for use with your clients and students.
The last several years of my career have been dedicated to enhancing professionals' capacities to be effective in the trauma field. Using experiential activities and many group exercises, I engage people in ways that enhance knowledge about how to help people overcoming traumatic experiences. This may include anything from exploring trauma informed care, to learning ways to recognize and minimize the effects of secondary trauma for front-line workers and managers of trauma serving organizations.
Consultation can mean many things to different people and organizations. I'll gladly make time with you to discuss your needs. I'm adept at program development which incorporates vision planning, evidence-based practices, assessments, and client and staff feedback. We'll take time to strategize the best format for interventions with your school or organization. Schedule a free phone consultation so we can explore some options.
For the last several years, I've served as a volunteer leader for the Association for Experiential Education's Therapeutic Adventure Professional Group. One of the most significant projects over that time has been the development of the Certified Clinical Adventure Therapist (CCAT) credential. For mental health practitioners interested in learning more about bringing experiential learning and adventure therapy to your clients and students, please see the information below. As the Chair of AEE's Certification Council, I'd be glad to answer your questions about the certification. And if you're interested in professional development and training in this area, I can help with that too.
If you're a therapist or group facilitator looking for new ways of enhancing group sessions, parent engagement, or family-based services for your clients, let's talk. I'll gladly work with you to learn and practice group facilitation techniques using experiential exercises. These interventions can be used anywhere from an office to natural areas in our community.
If you work with a group of therapists interested in learning new experiential clinical interventions, I can facilitate workshops for you to help with that goal. In the process, we'll take time to highlight connections you share with each other.
As the Chair of Certification Council of the Association for Experiential Education, I am very familiar with the Core Elements of Adventure Therapy training. I helped develop those guidelines alongside leading researchers and practitioners in the Adventure Therapy field. Let me know if I can help you design some experiential programming for your students of clients.
This one is pretty special! I've been able to work with other therapists and facilitators for group or family sessions. Part of this process is pre-session planning to explore the logistics and possibilities of taking your clients on a ropes course, to do archery, or to build primitive fires. We normally collaborate to enhance client communication skills, augment in-office relaxation or coping skills with an adventure activity, or celebrate a client's termination from counseling with an outdoor activity.
After the session, I'll take time to post-session with you to explore strategies for supporting your clients whether our collaboration lasts a single session or longer.
Also worth noting is that it's just been fun to work with some with pretty amazing clinicians in our community.
Congratulations to those of you graduating with a Master's Degree in counseling! If you're looking for a supervisor to help you with your Texas LPC licensure, give me a call so we can evaluate whether we'd fit well together. There's no obligation for an initial meeting since this working relationship will be a long-term investment for both of us.
We'll work on strengthening your skills as a clinician by discussing theories of change, staffing cases, reviewing our code of ethics and board rules, and learning new counseling techniques. I've supervised therapists who have built their own private practices, assumed clinical leadership roles in leading trauma-serving organizations, created their own clinical programs, and moved on to receive their doctoral degrees.
I'm especially eager to supervise counselors interested in learning more about using experiential and adventure-based interventions with clients to promote change. I've presented at regional, national, and international conferences on this subject and have come to specialize in providing, and supervising how to provide, family-based adventure therapy services. When possible, I invite my supervisees to co-facilitate groups with me on a ropes course, when paddling in a kayak on the rivers of South Texas, or when hiking in local parks. Oftentimes, I'll invite my supervisees to do their supervision with me in these locations as well.
